How to store PLA deli containers:

PLA deli containers should be stored out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources in a temperature-controlled environment. PLA has a temp threshold of 110-120 degrees. The main cause for PLA items melting and warping are cases or sleeves being exposed to direct sunlight in very hot conditions. Or, cases or sleeves not being stored in a temperature-controlled environment like a very hot kitchen, etc.

Take steps once your products are delivered to make sure your PLA cups and lids are stored properly. For more info on PLA, check out our Guide to PLA.

Deli Containers FAQs

What sizes of deli containers are most commonly used?

Common sizes include 8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz (pint), 24 oz, and 32 oz (quart)—covering everything from sides to full meals and anything in between!

Are Good Start Packaging deli containers microwave-safe and eco-friendly?

Many compostable options such as fiber containers are both microwave-safe and compostable. Clear PLA Deli containers are compostable but NOT microwave safe.

What materials are compostable deli containers made from?

Deli containers are available in a variety of materials, including:

  • Clear PLA (polylactic acid) – a biopolymer made from plants like corn
  • NoTree Bamboo Paper lined with PLA
  • Renewable plant fibers like sugarcane bagasse

Are deli containers leak-resistant or airtight?

While our deli containers offer leak resistance, especially for sauces and moist foods in PLA or PLA-lined paper, their lids are technically not airtight and may leak if tipped or accidentally crushed, making them better suited for short-term storage or transportation.

How do I choose the right deli container for my food business?

Consider:

  • Food type (soups require more leak-resistant lids, try our Paper Bowls for that!)
  • Portion size (e.g.12-16 oz for sides, 32 oz for salads)
  • Storage efficiency (stackable designs save space in fridges and storage)
  • Material preference (e.g. Clear PLA vs. Opaque Paper or Fiber)

What are the benefits of using eco-friendly deli containers?

Eco-friendly materials such as plant fiber and PLA are compostable, made from renewable plants, sturdy, and reduce environmental impact compared to traditional plastics.
